When your washing machine breaks down, you have two choices: the brand’s official service network (Samsung, LG, Bosch, IFB, Whirlpool and so on) or an independent local technician. Both have their place. Choosing the wrong one can cost you a free warranty repair, or leave you paying more and waiting longer than you need to.
Full disclosure: we are an independent repair service, not an authorised service centre for any brand. With that said, here is an honest comparison, including the situations where the brand is the better call.
Still under warranty? Call the brand
If your machine is still under the manufacturer’s warranty, contact the brand first. Covered repairs are free or heavily discounted, and having an outside technician open the machine can void that warranty. Check the purchase date on your invoice or warranty card. Some brands also give longer cover on specific parts such as the motor, so a machine that is out of its general warranty may still have that part covered.
If you bought an extended warranty from the retailer, check its terms too. Some plans send their own technicians, while others reimburse an independent repair.
Side-by-side comparison
| Factor | Brand service centre | Independent local technician |
|---|---|---|
| In-warranty repairs | Covered by the manufacturer | Not covered, and may void the warranty |
| Out-of-warranty cost | Often higher: fixed visit charges and parts at list price | Often lower, with a choice of genuine or quality compatible parts |
| Booking | Through a call centre ticket; visit slot depends on local demand | Call or WhatsApp the technician directly; same-day visits often possible |
| Control board faults | Board is usually replaced as a whole unit | Board can often be repaired at component level |
| Older or discontinued models | May have limited parts support | More willing to repair or source alternatives |
| Brands covered | Their own brand only | Usually all major brands |
| Repair warranty | Brand’s own service warranty | Varies by technician; ours is 90 days on parts and labour |
When a local technician is the better choice
- Your machine is out of warranty. There is nothing left to protect, and a local technician is usually the more economical option.
- It’s a control board fault. Component-level board repair can cost far less than the full board replacement a service centre typically quotes.
- The model is older or discontinued. Independent technicians are often more willing to repair or find workable alternatives.
- You need it fixed quickly. Talking directly to the person who will do the repair usually means a faster visit.
- It’s a semi-automatic machine. These are simple and inexpensive to repair, and local technicians handle them every day.
We repair all major brands, including semi-automatic machines and control boards, across Bangalore. Same-day visits where possible, with a 90-day warranty on parts and labour.
Beware of fake “service centre” numbers
Search for “Samsung service centre near me” or “LG service centre Bangalore” and you will find many listings that look official but are not. Some independent operators present themselves as authorised when they aren’t, and that matters if your machine is under warranty.
- If you want the authorised service, take the number from the brand’s official website, your warranty card or the sticker on the machine, not from a random listing.
- If you are happy to use an independent technician, choose one who is upfront about it. A technician who is honest about who they are is more likely to be honest about the fault and the price.
How to tell a good local technician from a bad one
- They diagnose before quoting, and tell you the inspection fee upfront.
- You get the price before any work starts, with no additions after the job is done.
- They explain the fault and will show you the old part they replaced.
- They give a warranty on the repair and tell you what it covers.
- They tell you when a repair isn’t worth it. See our guide on whether to repair or replace.
