An error code is your machine telling you exactly what it detected. Many codes point to simple issues — a tap turned off, a blocked filter — that you can resolve yourself. Here are the most common codes by brand.
Samsung error codes
- 4E / 4C — water supply problem (tap off, blocked inlet filter, low pressure).
- 5E / 5C — not draining (check pump filter and drain hose).
- UE / UB — unbalanced load (redistribute clothes).
- dE / dC — door not closed properly.
LG error codes
- IE — inlet/water-fill problem.
- OE — outlet/drain problem.
- UE — unbalanced load.
- dE — door open/lock error.
- tE — water temperature sensor fault.
IFB, Bosch & Whirlpool codes
- IFB — "DOOR" (lock) plus drain/fill symbols; aqua-energie and water-supply errors are common.
- Bosch — E18/E21 (drainage/pump), E23 (leak protection), tap symbol (water supply).
- Whirlpool — F-series codes (e.g. drain, motor) and lid/door indicators.
What you can safely check first
- Water codes (4E/IE/tap symbol) — check the tap is on, the inlet hose isn’t kinked, and clean the small inlet filter where the hose meets the machine.
- Drain codes (5E/OE/E18) — clean the pump filter and check the drain hose (see our drainage guide).
- Unbalance codes (UE) — redistribute the load.
- Door codes (dE/DOOR) — close firmly; if it persists the lock may be faulty.
- Power-cycle the machine — switch off at the wall for a minute; this clears transient codes.
